The “Bizarre World of Frank Zappa” tour has shared the first glimpse of its namesake hologram, shredding away on his signature Gibson SG.
In the short clip you can see how several audio/video elements will be utilized onstage, and according to a press release, the never-before-seen clips of Zappa performing stem from a 1974 recording session. “The audio from these performances–locked away in the ZAPPA vaults for 44 years–will serve as the basis for what will be the world’s most ambitious hologram tour to date,” it says. “The ‘can’t miss’ concert spectacle is being produced in close cooperation with the ZAPPA FAMILY TRUST.”
The tour will kick off on April 19 at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY. Tickets are on sale now.

April 13, 2019 at 9:48 amThanks Brian and all of his supporters.
I agree 100%. I was lucky enough to see Frank a half dozen times and I see Dweezil and Sheila and their amazing band EVERY time they play in my neck of the woods (10 times so far).
Even when Gail was running the ZFT, I supported it by buying the new CD releases and archive releases of everything Frank.
Once Ahmut pulled his power play and fucked over Dweezil and Moon, that was it for me.
My Zappa collection is HUGE and there are a lot of decent sounding CD releases of Frank’s shows that are not from the ZFT that I have been picking up and enjoying. So much like the other voices on this thread, NOT ONE DIME OF MINE WILL GO TO THE ZAPPA FAMILY TRUST UNTIL AHMET STOPS BEING AN ASSHOLE TO HIS SIBLINGS (and we know that isn’t going to happen). I won’t pluck down the money for the Zappagram in Boston (or anywhere else for that matter) nor am I even a little curious. Eat shit Ahmet. I hope you and Diva lose your shirts on this idiot idea.
‘Nuff Said.

April 13, 2019 at 9:39 amI’ve seen Frank and I’ve seen Dweezil, but no way will I go see a fake Frank to support those who took the music away from us. Go see Dweezil live over a film of Frank playing in 1974 in a warehouse.
Sorry Ahmet, even those who like the idea of a holographic show know when the show is just a money grab for those with no talent.

April 13, 2019 at 12:29 amAhmet,
You’ve made a really stupid miscalculation. The thing is, this hologram shit won’t last and it wont pay for itself.
Dweezil, just sit tight, this BS will blow over, and you will come out in a position to play guitar for people who love you and your dad.
Just stay healthy keep your chops up and prep some juicy music.
Even if you cant license Frank’s tunes it wont matter, just write a bunch of new ones in your own style.
People are ready, especially after the stench this is going to leave behind.
Ahmet, you should know better… but you’re not a world caliber musician, you’re a capitalist and a poor one at that. You dont understand the Zappa brand, the Zappa audience, and your gonna regret this…

April 12, 2019 at 5:40 pmAhmet, please stop. Everybody go see Dweezil.

April 12, 2019 at 12:41 pmIf I want to see Zappa, there’s plenty of performance videos and interviews to choose from. Frank would never have signed off on that crap – I’m in total agreement with Dweezil on this: no fake Frank. Ever!

April 12, 2019 at 12:34 pmI’m honestly not sure what I just saw and I watched it a few times. Is it video?? Is it a hologram of him on stage? I was lucky enough to see Frank several times and all he focused on was the music. This feels VERY Disney-esque and over the top. Dweezil’s shows were always amazing too and, just like his dad, focused on the music, not some loud LED eye candy. I’m not sure how Frank would feel about this…

April 12, 2019 at 12:24 pmI am totally with you Brian, but what I like to ask Doug is the following; Are there half-hardcore Zappafans or what do you mean?

April 12, 2019 at 8:38 amHonestly, after the shit the Zappa Family Trust pulled trying to screw Dweezil, I wouldn’t go see this shit for free. The hologram stuff is a little creepy; the way the non-musical members of the Zappa family went to war with dweezil to stop him from sharing the music if disgusting. They don’t get my money,

April 12, 2019 at 7:52 amI knew this was coming eventually but do I like it, NO. Eventually as the technology gets better who knows where it will go.Will not even know its a hologram.probably. A video would be great for memory and history. But not like he is still here. I have been waiting for a hologram of Garcia and people jamming with him. Disgusting. But I am old so who knows.

April 11, 2019 at 4:18 pmIf you spend money to see this, you need your fkn head checked.

April 11, 2019 at 4:30 pmWhy is that?
Frank spoke about holograms 25 years ago in his book and was always an innovator with new technology and music delivery.
This band features members and special guests of his bands from 1976 – 1984, among the world’s best players.
If it’s good enough for Steve Vai and Terry Bozzio and Ed Mann and hardcore FZ fans, it should be good enough for you, too.
