On Friday night, Brooklyn’s Barclays Center hosted the 2019 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, which saw the welcoming of Radiohead, Stevie Nicks, The Cure, The Zombies, Janet Jackson, Def Leppard and Roxy Music into the storied Hall with performances and speeches from both the inductees as well as the artists who were chosen to help induct them.

The evening kicked off with a performance from Nicks, who welcomed Don Henley for “Leather and Lace” and Harry Styles for “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” before closing out with her classic “Edge of Seventeen,” featuring guitarist Waddy Wachtel, who played on the original recording of the tune.

Highlights from the rest of speeches throughout the night included David Byrne inducting Radiohead (who take their band name from Byrne’s Talking Heads number “Radio Head”) by praising the band’s innovation over the years, followed by guitarist Phil Selway and drummer Ed O’Brien (Thom Yorke and Jonny and Colin Greenwood were not present at the ceremony); Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor addressing his previous statements against the validity of the Rock Hall of Fame while inducting The Cure; a heartfelt speech from Janelle Monáe as she inducted one of her idols, Janet Jackson; and Queen guitarist Brian May inducting his friends Def Leppard into the Hall.

Other performances from most of the class of 2019 (sans Radiohead and Jackson) offered fans glimpses of their storied careers, including a reunion of Roxy Music, who hadn’t played together since parting ways in 2011, and a finale collaboration led by Def Leppard and featuring several performers from the night playing Mott the Hoople’s classic “All the Young Dudes,” including Brian May, Steven Van Zandt and more, plus a surprise appearance from Mott frontman Ian Hunter.
