Bob Weir & Wolf Bros’ tour continued on Wednesday night in New Jersey, with special guest vocalist Sasha Dobson joining in on the tail-end of set two. Some may recognize Dobson for her work in Norah Jones’ Puss N Boots trio; The group is also signed to Blue Note Records, a label that Wolf Bros bassist Don Was currently serves as President.

Before Dobson’s sit-in, the trio of Weir, Was and drummer Jay Lane played a nice mix of material through set one. The band opened with Blue Mountain solo cut “Only A River” and continued with Weir/Wasserman favorite “The Winners,” which was jammed into the first Dead tune of the evening, “Jack Straw.” From there, the band offered stand-alone versions of “Tennessee Jed,” “Maggie’s Farm” and “Shade of Grey.” They closed the first set with a pairing of “Weather Report Suite” and “Let It Grow.”

The second half opened with a rocking “Me and Bobby McGee,” but from there the Wolf Bros slowed things down with a classic pairing of “Lost Sailor”> “Saint of Circumstance.” Fans gathered at the Count Basie Theatre were glad to hear the following “All Along The Watchtower,” which flowed nicely into “I Need A Miracle.” The jam continued with the John Perry Barlow/Weir composition”Looks Like Rain” and kept going through “The Music Never Stopped.”

Dobson made her first appearance on “Easy Answers” and remained onstage for the segue back into “The Music Never Stopped,” naturally adding some Donna Jean vibes to the proceedings.

After an applause break, the trio (plus Dobson) closed the show with an emotive version of Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door.”
