Phish lyricist Tom Marshall debuted the third season of his Under The Scales podcast on Monday, with special guest Mike Gordon.

Over the hour-long interview, the Phish bassist touches on a variety of subjects, from his renewed passion for filmmaking (“I would like to do something bigger that wold blow away anything I’ve done before”) to the experience of soaring through the air at Madison Square Garden on New Year’s Eve (“I thought I would be scared. I don’t always like heights”).

Gordon also discusses the many facets of his instrument and the “metaphysics of groove,” such as the differences between his Phish and solo bass rigs, as well as the experience of playing with Phil Lesh.

Part two of Marshall’s interview with the Phish bassist comes out on Monday, Feb. 18.
