Earlier this month, Steven Bensusan, owner of New York’s Highline Ballroom, confirmed that the venue, which has hosted shows in Manhattan for over a decade, would be closing its doors in early February, and now The Roots have been announced as headliners for a February 4 show, the final currently on Highline’s calendar.
The Roots previously held down a weekly residency at Highline early in their tenure as house band for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. More information and tickets to the band’s final offering at Highline Ballroom can be found here.
In his earlier statement, Bensusan wrote, “Unfortunately after 12 years our landlord has decided not to renew Highline Ballroom’s lease. For over a year we were led to believe that a renewal was imminent, however it is now clear that the landlord has other plans for the building. This is obviously a growing trend within the New York real estate market impacting various entertainment venues and businesses.”
Bensusan notes that he plans to reopen Highline Ballroom in a new location in the Chelsea/Meatpacking District neighborhood of Manhattan.

January 31, 2019 at 12:06 pmWhat’s next? The hallowed Beacon Theatre? Just think what kind of money that old venue would command if torn down, for “Russian Condos” NOT developed by the Orange-Wigged utter buffoon in the White House.

January 30, 2019 at 6:34 pmMaybe it’s their new click bait technique. I had to read the article to find out whether the band was breaking up or the venue was closing. Well done!
