Gov’t Mule are hosting their 10th Island Exodus festival in Jamaica from Jan. 20-24, and closed out their Monday night gig at the destination event with a surprise revival of Alice Cooper’s “I’m Eighteen” and a slew of special guests.

The band opened the two-set offering with “Bad Little Doggie” and worked their way through “World Boss,” “About To Rage” and “Lola.” Later, Warren Haynes and company welcomed tenor saxophonist Ron Holloway for a jam on Mule’s “Blind Man In The Dark” that eventually returned at the tail-end of Jimi Hendrix’s “Hear My Train A Coming.” Holloway departed the stage for Mule to take the lead on “Broke Down On The Brazos,” but for set closers “Tributary Jam” and “Time To Confess,” the band brought out Holloway and Promise of the Real percussionist Tato Melgar.

Set two kicked off with the band’s first take on “I’m Eighteen” since 12/31/02, and continued on with “I Shall Return.”

Mule then invited Holloway, Melgar and guitarist Duane Betts to jam on “Sco-Mule,” before Holloway briefly stepped away for one of Haynes’ ABB favorites “Melissa.”

The end of set two came with a dip into another ABB favorite “Mountain Jam,” which segued back into Melissa with the same rotation of Holloway, Melgar and Betts.

The grand finale came with Holloway, Melgar, Lukas Nelson, Cory McCormick, Anthony LoGerfo and Logan Metz throwing down with Mule on Peter Tosh’s “Stop That Train” and, finally, Neil Young’s “Cortez The Killer.”
