Last night Oteil Burbridge opened his New Year’s Run with a performance at Port Chester, NY’s Capitol Theatre. The bassist was joined by guitarists Eric Krasno and John Kadlecik, along with Jennifer Hartswick on vocals and trumpet, keyboard player Melvin Seals, drummer Jay Lane and percussionist Weedie Braimah. The band performed two sets, kicking things off with the Jerry Garcia Band’s “Cats Down Under The Stars” followed by the Grateful Dead’s “Bertha.” The evening focused on material from the Garcia/Dead catalogs but it also included the title track to Burbridge’s Water In The Desert record with Hartswick on vocals, along with such selections as “Piece Of My Heart” which closed set one and “Proud Mary” which concluded set two.
Oteil & Friends will return to The Cap on Saturday night and then move to Brooklyn Bowl on December 30 and 31. The bassist shares some thoughts on these dates as well as his upcoming plans, in an interview that just posted to the site.
