After four years in the Dominican Republic, destination concert event Holidaze returned to Mexico earlier this week at the Now Sapphire Resort in Puerto Morelos, and one of the weekend’s headliners, The Disco Biscuits, returned to the stage last night with a show that featured special guest guitarist Tom Hamilton.
Hamilton, who is at Holidaze to play with his project Ghost Light, is a longtime friend of the Biscuits and fellow Philadelphian who plays in Electron with bassist Marc Brownstein and keyboardist Aron Magner. After joining the band for their initial Holidaze soundcheck earlier in the week (see Dave Vann’s photo above), the Joe Russo’s Almost Dead guitarist helped the Biscuits out for their entire Thursday-evening set, which included a number of covers.
The set kicked off with J.J. Cale’s “After Midnight” and also included rare Biscuits runs of Bob Marley’s “Exodus” and Pink Floyd’s “Echoes,” plus the band’s debut of John Lennon’s “Watching the Wheels,” a nod to the late Beatle just a few days after the anniversary of his murder on December 8.
See The Disco Biscuits’ two Holidaze setlists so far below. The destination event continues today and tonight with music from Umphrey’s McGee, STS9, Lotus and Ghost Light, and tomorrow with more Biscuits, Umphrey’s and Pigeons Playing Ping Pong.
