After teasing a big announcement on their social media channels, Lotus have surprised fans with a brand new album, entitled Frames Per Second

According to the band, the LP will also be released as a full in-studio documentary, capturing a certain spontaneous energy that was crucial to the project.

“We’ve done different things with different albums where singles are rolled out over a period of time, but I feel like in this day and age, when there’s so much information coming at you, we wanted to skip all that and just put out the album all at once and let everybody have access to it at the same time,” bassist Jesse Miller said of the surprise release.

Captured live at Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Soundworks, the album is creative a shift for the jamtronica quintet. Compared to their prior releases, Frames Per Second relies on vintage synthesizers and stripped-down arrangements.

“One thing that’s important for projects is to put parameters and limits on them,” explains guitarist-keyboardist Luke Miller. “Lotus is a group that can encompass a lot of different musical styles. If we can limit something, in this case the time and musical palette, it can focus the project”

“What we were playing in the studio at the time was going to be the record,” adds Jesse. “It definitely feels different than a show, but it does capture some of that live, interactive feel.”
