Strangefolk guitarist and mainstay Jon Trafton has posted an update about the finger injury he weathered shortly before his band’s Garden of Eden festival last August. Unfortunately, due to the severity of his injury, Trafton will be forced to put any winter Strangefolk plans on hold and cancel his upcoming G.L.T shows with Strangefolk bassist Erik Glockler and Trey Anastasio Band drummer Russ Lawton, who played in Strangeolk from 2004-2012.
As Trafton’s message explains:
Hey Gang,
As many of you know, I broke two fingers on my left hand this summer just before our Garden of Eden festival last August. After Eden, when we started talking about putting some shows together, January seemed far enough away that I assumed I would be ready to play. Unfortunately, I was wrong.
Yesterday I met with the hand surgeon and he urged me to cancel the shows because my hand won’t be healed enough to take the strain. He said I shouldn’t expect full recovery for about a year from when the injury happened. As in, Eden 2019. Ugh. I played a set last week with Erik Glockler and Steve Jones and realized that my hand is still in pretty bad shape. I can play guitar but it is hard and my hand was hurting pretty bad.
On the plus side, the doctor said that with physical therapy I will regain a good deal more finger mobility than I currently have. To me that’s the most important thing, no matter how long it takes.
With a heavy heart, I am going to take my doctor’s advice and cancel the G.L.T shows. I’m really disappointed, as I was looking forward to getting together with Erik and Russ and putting a new spin on the songs that Erik and I have been writing together since we were teenagers. But playing as a trio requires each player to be 100% and if I’m not able to do that I think it’s best to cancel.
I thank you all for your interest and hope we can book more G.L.T dates later on. Extra special thanks goes to Patrick May at Crossover Touring for his work putting this run together.
Thanks for all your support,
Jon
G.L.T. were set to perform at Portland, ME’s Portland House of Music on January 17 and South Burlington, VT’s Higher Ground on January 18.
