After being proclaimed a “National Treasure” by the National Trust for Historic Preservation earlier this fall, the former home of jazz musicians John and Alice Coltrane in Dix Hills, NY, and its associated nonprofit, The John and Alice Coltrane Home, are launching a Kickstarter to help raise money for repairs on the home.

According to a press release, along with the immediate need of facade and foundation repair, the organization’s plans for the Coltrane Home include offering “a meditation room and garden, interactive digital exhibits providing historical context and visitor engagement as well as the return of the basement to a practice space and working recording studio hosting artists in residence.”

Two honorary board members of the Coltrane Home nonprofit that were announced at the National Trust event last month are guitarist Derek Trucks and pianist McCoy Tyner, a former member of the John Coltrane Quartet.

According to the organization, “The legacy of John and Alice Coltrane will be heard and felt in every space of the Home, and our hope is to leave each child who visits inspired to use their own creativity.”
