Greensky Bluegrass offered up a very special “Casual Wednesday” show last night at the Roseland Theater in Portland, OR, expanding their regular mid-week celebration to an all-out circus performance for Halloween, inviting circus performers on stage and dressing up in impressive, old-timey circus costumes (as seen in the photo above, banjoist Michael Bont was a clown, mandolinist Paul Hoffman a “bearded lady,” dobroist Anders Beck a ringmaster, guitarist Dave Bruzza a strongman and bassist Mike Devol a bear on a tricycle).

The two-set performance also held some surprises in the form of several cover debuts, including the first song of the night, a cover of Pink Floyd’s “In the Flesh?” (part two of that song would come during the holiday-appropriate “Bring Out Your Dead” to close out set two), plus Bon Jovi’s “Runaway,” Ralph Stanley’s “Let’s All Go to the Fair” and Los Lobos’ “When the Circus Comes to Town,” which came during the evening’s encore. Greensky rounded out the performance after that last cover with their version of John Hartford’s “Get No Better” (also known as “Joseph’s Dream”) featuring members of opening act The Lil Smokies.

See the full setlist below, along with fan-shot video from the night via Dylan Bondy on YouTube. Greensky Bluegrass return to the Roseland Theater stage tonight before heading to Seattle this weekend. See their full schedule here.
