Umphrey’s McGee brought their fall tour to The Fillmore in Charlotte, NC, on Thursday night, and the band welcomed vocalist Kanika Moore—who plays in UM bassist Ryan Stasik’s side-project Doom Flamingo—during the first set for a cover of a Prince classic.

Umphrey’s opened with a seasonally appropriate “October Rain,” and the first set also included staples like “Booth Love” and “1348.” Just before the set closer “Den,” the group brought out Moore, a singer from Charleston, SC, to lead the way on Prince’s “I Wanna Be Your Lover,” a tune played by UM only three times previously, after being debuted in Prince’s home state of Minnesota in October of last year.

Set two from last night was bookended with “Pay the Snucka” and included newer cut “Triangle Tear,” from this year’s it’s you, plus more classic songs like “Wappy Sprayberry” and “Uncommon.” The second-set “Puppet String” was later reprised as the encore finale, which was preceded by a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Fool in the Rain” sandwiched between UM staple “Utopian Fir.”

See the setlist below as it appears in our Box Scores section. Umphrey’s keep their tour rolling tonight at the Red Hat Amphitheater in Raleigh, NC (Stasik and Moore’s Doom Flamingo are playing an after-party at Raleigh’s Lincoln Theatre), and will also be offering a free webcast of this Sunday’s show at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY.
