Grace Potter hosted her annual Grand Point North festival in her home state of Vermont over the weekend, playing two headlining sets at Burlington’s Waterfront Park and welcoming a lineup that featured Jackson Browne, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Ani DiFranco, The Magpie Salute and more. For her own performances, which were preceded by a special introduction from Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, Potter brought out a couple of fellow festival artists in Browne and Rateliff, plus surprise guest Kenny Chesney.

Potter kicked off her Grand Point North appearance with a Saturday night performance that featured a number of cuts from her Nocturnals days plus some solo material, along with her first guest spot of the weekend, when Chesney emerged in the latter-half of the set for “You and Tequila,” a song that the two recorded together for Chesney’s 2010 album Hemingway’s Whiskey. Later in the night, Potter welcomed out Browne for the entire four-song encore, including takes on John Prine’s “Angel From Montgomery” and Warren Zevon’s “Lawyer Guns and Money,” plus Browne’s own “Doctor My Eyes” and “Running on Empty,” the last of which also saw Chesney return to the stage.

On Sunday evening, Potter returned to help close out her festival with the second performance of the weekend, which included the debuts of three new songs, “Every Heartbeat,” “Back to Me” and “Everyday Love.” Potter then brought out Rateliff for a cover of Bob Dylan’s “I Shall Be Released.” Last night’s encore once again closed with “Running on Empty” featuring Browne and Chesney.
