After much speculation where Sir Paul McCartney was going to play his “secret” album-release show in NYC on Friday evening (including McCartney himself dropping a pretty clear hint the previous night on The Tonight Show), the legendary Beatle revealed that he would be performing a special free concert at Grand Central Station in the legendary building’s Vanderbilt Hall.

McCartney took the stage in front of packed room of hundreds, still making for a relatively intimate performance for the iconic songwriter. The show was filled with Beatles classics like “A Hard Day’s Night,” “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “Love Me Do,” “Blackbird,” “Back in the U.S.S.R.,” “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da,” Let It Be,” “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” and an Abbey Road closing run of “Golden Slumbers,” “Carry That Weight” and “The End,” plus cuts from Wings and McCartney’s solo work, including tracks from his new album Egypt Station (“Come On to Me,” “Who Cares” and “Fuh You”), which was released earlier in the day.

The performance also featured some stage banter from McCartney, who reflected on the unusual surroundings, talked a bit about the songs he was playing and even interacted with the audience, joking with one fan who took out his ID card to prove that he deserved a dedication of “Birthday.”
