Phish continued their tour last night in New Jersey, arriving on a steamy night in Camden for their first show at the BB&T Pavilion since summer 2011 and delivering a packed show that opened up in the second set, particularly with a couple of extended takes on “Down With Disease” and “Light.”

Set one, which featured some drops of rain at various points, kicked off with a quick run of “Crowd Control,” followed by a couple of newer tunes, “No Men In No Man’s Land” and “Blaze On.” Page McConnell took over on “Lawn Boy,” offering a nice vocal run at the end of the song, which preceded the recently debuted “Infinite,” just the second-ever appearance of the tune.

The mid-point of the set brought out the crowd favorite “Wilson.” After “Roggae,” “Rift” led into an energetic “46 Days” that featured a tease of the theme from ’70s television show S.W.A.T. from Trey Anastasio. The 11-song first set then came to a close with a quick run of “Sparkle” into a longer “David Bowie.”

Set two opened up with a massive “Down with Disease” that highlighted the night with multi-faceted improvisation from all four band members, featuring dark sections and euphoric peaks, clocking in at over 24 minutes. “Backwards Down the Number Line” kept the energy flowing and led into McConnell’s “I Always Wanted it That Way” and Anastasio’s reflective “Miss You.”

Next up was another extended tune, a engaging “Light” that paved the way for a “Mike’s Song” that featured a tease of “You Sexy Thing” led by Anastasio, a callback to the return of the Hot Chocolate cover during Phish’s Alpharetta finale. The set then rounded out with “I Am Hydrogen” and the playful “Weekapaug Groove,” before the band returned to the stage to close out with a “Show of Life” encore.

Phish return to the BB&T Pavilion stage tonight for round two.
