Last week, Deerhunter brought their show to New York for a couple shows, including a Wednesday-night gig at Le Poisson Rouge that saw the band continue to play songs from their as-yet-unnamed album and even welcome three-fourths of Animal Collective for a surprise collaboration, which turned into an impromptu improvisational jam.

As Brooklyn Vegan reports, Deerhunter Bradford Cox brought up Avey Tare, Deakin and Geologist, plus opener Cindy Lee, and asked the crowd if they should play one of the new songs they’d played earlier or if they should improvise a jam. The crowd heavily favored the latter, and the musicians got to work.

Watch a video of the collaboration above. Deerhunter, who are selling a limited-edition cassette The Double Dream of Spring on their tour (they unexpectedly sold out at opening night in NYC but promised to send them to interested fans who were at LPR), are planning a new proper album later this year and will play next on May 25 in London.
