Jack White has released a new live cover of The Modern Lovers’ ’70s proto-punk cut “Pablo Picasso” as part of his contribution to the Spotify Singles series.

The cover, which was recorded at Spotify’s New York studios, accompanies a live rendition of “Over and Over,” the riff-heavy single from White’s recent album Boarding House Reach on the new two-song offering.

White’s take on “Pablo Picasso” begins with some frantic, muted guitar that leads into White letting loose on Jonathan Richman’s odd lyrics about Picasso never being called an asshole, but the song really acts as a vehicle for some electric-guitar acrobatics from White, who is joined by his fantastic touring band on the recording.

Listen to the single below, along with the original Modern Lovers recording of the song. White is currently on tour in support of Boarding House Reach and will play tonight at Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis.
