Bob Weir and Phil Lesh performed their second show at Radio City Music Hall last night, playing a slew of Grateful Dead favorites and welcoming Phish’s Trey Anastasio to the stage for their entire second set.

A little after 8 p.m., the venue’s lush gold curtain was raised to reveal the two Grateful Dead veterans, joined by percussionist Wally Ingram. Unlike night one, the duo started off Saturday night electric, with Weir on his sunburst stratocaster for opener “New Speedway Boogie” and the following “West LA Fadeaway.”

As set one continued, Lesh took over lead vocals for “Lazy River Road.” Then, between songs, Weir told a silly joke about a duck before the duo really found their groove on “Deep Elem Blues.”
Weir and Lesh closed set one with a lengthy, jammed-out “Cassidy”> “Touch of Grey”> “Cassidy” segment that had the audience smiling into setbreak.

Set two opened with a bang when, once again, the curtain was raised, only this time revealing additional guitarist Trey Anastasio. The Phish frontman joined Weir, Lesh and Ingram for a 10+ minute acoustic “Playing in the Band,” after which Lesh hugged both Weir and Anastasio.

Later, Anastasio put down his acoustic and picked up his signature Languedoc electric guitar, performing “Dark Star,” “Jack Straw” and “Eyes of the World” which eventually dipped back into “Dark Star.” Weir, Lesh and Anastasio finished things up with a rousing trio of “St. Stephen,” “Viola Lee Blues” and “Standing On The Moon” (with a “Viola Lee Blues” reprise). They encored with a venue-wide sing-a-long of “Ripple.”

Weir and Lesh’s next stop is the Wang Theatre in Boston, where they will perform March 7 and 8. After that, they will close out the tour in Chicago.
