When the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival released its 2018 roster of performers last week, diehard attendees were scratching their heads, wondering why NOLA music icon Dr. John was missing from the lineup.

The 77-year-old was asked by so many fans and friends about his non-performance that a rep recently cleared things up.

A statement by publicist Karen Dalton read, “After six decades of life on the road, Dr. John is taking a well-earned break and resting at home.”

And while Dr. John had cancelled a two shows at NOLA’s historic Tipitina’s venue this past December due to illness, his absence from Jazz Fest does not mean a performing hiatus.

“I wouldn’t count out more shows down the road,” Dalton wrote. “So stay tuned. The last statement he gave me is: ‘Everything is good.’”
