The National debuted a cover of hometown hero Leonard Cohen’s “Memories” during their performance at Montreal’s MTELUS last night. The group unveiled the Death of a Ladies’ Man track at the end of their five-song encore. Throughout their extended tour behind this year’s Grammy-nominated Sleep Well Beast, The National have occasionally nodded to their surroundings by dropping covers of songs by area musicians, including playing New Order’s “Love Vigilantes” in Manchester, England and The Ramones’ “The KKK Took My Baby Away” in Queens, NY. The indie-rock group also dusted off “Peggy-O,” a song they recorded for the Day of the Dead tribute, for the first time this year at Vancouver, BC’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre on December 2.

The quintet will return to MTELUS this evening.
