The Klezmatics will celebrate the music of Woody Guthrie this Hanukkah. The New York-based klezmer outfit will kick off their
“Woody Guthrie’s Happy Joyous Hanukkah” run at Phoenix, AZ’s MIM Music Theater on December 13. From there, the holiday celebration will make stops at Stanford, CA’s StanfordLive – Bing Concert Hall on December 14, Northridge, CA’s CSUN – Valley Performing Arts Center on December 16 and South Orange, NJ’s The South Orange Performing Arts Center on December 21.

Woody Guthrie has a close connection with his mother-in-law Aliza Greenblatt, a prominent Yiddish poet, and wrote a number of klezmer-inspired tunes. He also composed a number of Hanukkah originals. The Klezmatics have reinterpreted Guthrie’s klezmer works both onstage and on the 2006 studio albums Woody Guthrie’s Happy Joyous Hanukkah and Wonder Wheel.
