Gov’t Mule kicked off a run of European dates this past Sunday, stopping by The Academy in Dublin, Ireland, and the band paid homage to a local legend in the process.

Mule opened the show with a cover of The Staples Singers’ “Hammer and Nails” and offered some live staples and material from their recent album Revolution Come…Revolution Go throughout the two set-performance. The second frame began with a nod to iconic Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison with a cover of his “Ballerina,” the first appearance of the tune in a Mule setlist since 4/27/2013. The band returned to that theme during their encore, fitting Morrison’s “Tupelo Honey” into the middle of their version of the Allman Brothers’ “Soulshine.”
