Primus will release their new album The Desaturating Seven on September 29 via ATO, with Les Claypool teaming up with Larry LaLonde and Tim Alexander for a decidedly retro Primus record.
“This record harkens back to our prog roots—Rush, Yes, Crimson, all those things,” Claypool said. “It’s a little heavier than the last record, more intricate than anything we’ve done in a while.”
Inspired by the 1970s children’s book The Rainbow Goblins which Claypool often read to his children as they were growing up, the record touches on a number of themes as Claypool notes of the “dark eeriness” and “beauty” of the book.
