Memphis’ Southern Avenue, a five-piece soul outfit who were recently profiled in Relix‘s On the Verge section, received two Blues Blast Music Awards over the weekend. The Stax records artists were honored with both the New Artist Debut Record and the Sean Costello Rising Star Awards. They have also released a cover of Beyonce’s “Freedom”—which was previously available only as a digital bonus track—as a new single.

Southern Avenue’s self-titled debut dropped in February. The LP features guest appearances by Luther Dickinson of the North Mississippi Allstars as well as trumpeter Marc Franklin of the Bo-Keys. You can listen to “Freedom” below. Southern Avenue’s fall tour will kick off at Charleston, WV’s Live on the Levee this Friday.
