Dispatch co-founder Pete Francis joined his longtime band onstage at Queens, NY’s Forest Hills Stadium last night. The singer and multi-instrumentalist is sitting out Dispatch’s current “America, Location 12 Tour” due to his ongoing struggles with depression. At the tail end of last night’s performance, he made a surprise appearance on two songs he is often associated with, “Two Coins” and “Bang Bang,” during Dispatch’s encore. Earlier in the evening Dispatch’s Chad Stokes briefly touched on Francis’ health issues, encouraging fans to send in messages about their own personal struggles.

The members of Dispatch also surprised fans by opening their stadium show with an acoustic set at the lip of the stage. The group worked through “Flying Horses,” “Flag,” “Only the Wild Ones,” “Rice Water” and “Elias” before plugging in and resuming their usual positions. The old-school Wetlands bill also featured opening acts Guster and Marco Benevento. The three bands will perform at Columbia, MD’s Merriweather Post Pavilion this evening.
