Trey Anastasio Band headlined Colorado’s famed Red Rocks Amphitheatre last night, but the bandleader got his evening started early when he joined opening act Vulfpeck for a portion of their set.

Anastasio, along with Vulf collaborators Joey Dosik and Cory Wong, helped the band through their slow-funk original “Rango,” which veered for a bit into Michael Jackson’s “Will You Be There.” After the tune, Theo Katzman joked, “Trey Anastasio, everybody. Make sure you stick around to hear his set, okay?”

In a recent cover story for Relix profiling Phish as they released their latest album, Big Boat, Anastasio name-checked Vulfpeck, saying that he meant to check out their performance at Brooklyn Bowl but succumbed to the convenience of watching a earlier show of theirs online.
