Former Allman Brothers bassist David Goldflies, who spent his time in the band from 1978-82, posted a lengthy remembrance of drummer Butch Trucks on his website recounting his time spent with Trucks.

“What Butch said wasn’t half as important as to how he played and what I learned from him,” Goldflies said. “A freight train is a great description. Solid is an understatement. Yet always musical.”

Goldflies reminisced about his timpani and bass improvisation with Trucks, also calling his death “quite saddening but I will celebrate the gift he gave me in allowing me to directly experience his huge talent.”
