Dead & Company kicked off their Citi Field run last night with a show that saw them once again collaborate with vocalist Donna Jean Godchaux on a selection of tunes in the first set.

Donna Jean, who also joined the group during their headlining set at Bonnaroo, came out to add vocals on the opening “Shakedown Street” as well as “Loose Lucy,” “Sugaree” and just the second ever Dead & Co version of “Passenger.”

The second set saw the group play without guests on a sprawling “Dark Star” as well as “Friend of the Devil” (“Box of Rain” was soundchecked and placed on the setlist but was cut in the second set), the classic “Scarlet” > “Fire” pairing, “The Other One,” “Wharf Rat” and a politically-charged singalong in “Throwing Stones.”

For the encore, John Mayer donned a New York Mets jersey for an acoustic rendition of “Ripple” before Weir led the ensemble in “One More Saturday Night.”

Dead & Co return to Citi Field tonight.
