Poet, spoken-word artist and actor Frank Messina will bring together a group of musicians later this month to back up his words for a collaborative performance at The Turning Point in Piermont, NY, that now includes guitarist Scott Murawski.

Murawski, who plays with Max Creek and Mike Gordon, will join Messina, keyboardist Brian Jackson, bassist Robbie Gordon, percussionist Larry McDonald, drummer Johnny Markowski, saxophonist Erik Lawrence and soundscaper Michael Callaghan for the performance on April 15.

Noting the unexpected nature of these performances with Messina, Murawski conveys his excitement, saying, “As an improvising musician, I’m always looking for inspiration, and most of the time I have to dig something up out of my own life or experience, or focus on something in the room. But to play with Frank, well, he’s the inspiration. Obviously, his poetry has subject matter and that’s usually the foundation of the pieces that we play, but beyond that, Frank’s delivery…that’s where the magic happens.”
