Gov’t Mule performed at Danbury, CT’s Ives Concert Park last night. Nicki Bluhm & the Gramblers opened the night and several special guests joined Gov’t Mule during their two-set show. At the end of Gov’t Mule’s first set, area saxophonist and longtime Allman Brothers Band collaborator Bill Evans sat in on “Sco-Mule.”

Evans returned a few songs into Gov’t Mule’s second set for a cover of The Band’s “The Shape I’m In” that segued into Traffic’s “Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys.” Then, Gramblers members Nicki Bluhm, Tim Bluhm, Steve Adams and Dave Mulligan all joined Gov’t Mule and Evans for a take on “I’ll Drown In My Own Tears,” a song associated with Ray Charles.

Evans returned with his steady bssist Dave Anderson at the night for jammed out versions of “Sad & Deep As You” and “Afro-Blue.” Gov’t Mule described the songs as the “Charles Ives Experiment #2,” in celebration of the modernist composer for whom the park is named.

A few clips from last night’s performance are available over at Relix.com. Gov’t Mukle and Nicki Bluhm & the Gramblers will perform at Red Bank, NJ’s Count Basie Theatre tomorrow.
