moe. will record their next studio album at Levon Helm’s Woodstock, NY barn/studio. Guitarist Chuck Garvey first revealed the initial details about the project in the June issue of Relix.
“I don’t know if we’re supposed to talk about it,” he said, “but we’re making plans to record this coming fall. We’re going to be at Levon Helm’s studio, and we’re setting up the details for all that right now. We’re trying to write a little bit and get a bunch of material together that we’ll work on over the summer.”
moe. performed at one of Helm’s Midnight Rambles and booked the Band drummer at their moe.down festival. Many musicians have recorded at Helm’s studio, including big name jambands like Hot Tuna and The Black Crowes.
“I think one thing that we’re changing about the next process is we’re going to have a lot more time on our hands and a lot more involvement from the producer,” bassist Rob Derhak told Jambands.com in January. “We can actually have time to let things develop between the band and the producer and I think we’re going to try to get him involved early on before we even go into the studio, so we can really know what we’re getting into. That was the one thing that was tough. We talked to our producer on the phone, but we met him at the studio and for three weeks we had no time to go work on songs with him or do anything.”
