The second iteration of Strangefolk has officially parted ways. The core lineup of guitarist Jon Trafton, bassist Erik Glockler and singer/guitarist Luke “Patchen” Montgomery have performed together since 2000, when original frontman Reid Genauer left the band. Russ Lawton has been Strangefolk’s steady drummer since 2004 while keyboardist Don Scott has performed with the band since 2001.

After Trafton and Glocker reunited with Genauer and classic drummer Luke Smith as the Original Strangefolk Reunion in early 2012, the latter day version of the band continued on for a few months. Trafton and Glocker have now decided to focus solely on the band’s classic lineup as well as their solo projects.

A note from the band reads:

Dear Friends,

Since May 2012, when we last took the stage together at the Strange Creek Festival in Greenfield, MA, our musical and personal lives have gone in different directions. Recently we decided to go our separate ways and wish each other well.

We want to make an especially heartfelt thank you to Russ Lawton. You would be hard pressed to find a better friend and musician to share the stage with. We would also like to thank our families, friends, and fans of the band for all their love and support over the past eleven years we played together as Strangefolk. They’ve been amazing years and we feel fortunate to have been able to share so much music, friendship, and fun during that time.

The music will continue. You can catch Russ on the road with Trey Anastasio Band and Soule Monde, Erik and Patchen are always adding more Dirigo dates, and Strangefolk Reunion will continue to play. We hope to see you out on the road.

Respectfully,
Don, Erik, Jon, Patchen
