Dylan and Knopfler in 2011

Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler sat in with Bob Dylan at San Diego, CA’s Valley View Casino Center last night. The guitarist emerged partway through Dylan’s set for a take on the Love and Theft song “Summer Days.”

Knopfler is currently on the road as Dylan’s support act, though last night marks the first time the musicians have collaborated onstage this fall. The two musicians have a long history together: Knopfler appears on Dylan’s 1979 album Slow Train Coming and his 1983 release Infidels. They toured Europe together last year and collaborated onstage with increased frequency. Their current tour pulls into Los Angeles, CA’s Hollywood Bowl on Friday.
