Phil Lesh & Friends continued their recent series of Rambles at Terrapin Crossroads over the weekend, kicking off the first of three June Rambles on Friday. Once again, Lesh was joined by some of the regulars who have performed at Terrapin Crossroads since its opening (and who have recently performed under the Phil & Pals moniker), including RatDog guitarist Mark Karan, Dark Star Orchestra keyboardist Rob Barraco, The Cardinal’s pedal steel player Jon Graboff and Ollabelle drummer Tony Leone.

Friday’s Ramble kicked off shortly after 8PM in the venue’s Grate Room with an improvisational segment, as was the case with each of the sets throughout the weekend. The setlist included a number of Dead classics, and remained close to a traditional Dead show, aside from the cover of Dylan’s “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall” (a Dylan tune the Grateful Dead never performed), which featured Graboff on lead vocals.

The following night, the band once again ran through a number of Dead classics—with the addition of two new covers that found their way into each set. In the first, Jackie Greene’s “One Bad Love” appeared, while in the second, a cover of Zack Brown Band’s “Free” sandwiched a cover of Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic.” The group also dusted off a cover of the Beatles’ “I Am The Walrus” late in the second set.

On Sunday, the Ramble was preceded by a special Father’s Day performance by Lesh and his sons Grahame and Brian in the Terrapin Crossroads Bar Room. Together, the family band ran through a number of tunes from the Dead cannon as well as a cover song by Kings of Leon, Mumford & Sons and originals by Grahame and Brian. The show also served as a birthday celebration for Phil Lesh’s wife, Jill.

The Sunday Ramble carried the weekend’s theme with a setlist containing mostly classic Dead tunes, along with a pair of originals by Greene “Gone Wanderin’” and “Down in the Valley Woe.” The group also covered The Band’s “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.”

Phil Lesh returns to Terrapin Crossroads on June 27 with Furthur to kick off a four night run of sold-out shows at the venue. Check out setlists from this weekend’s Rambles below.
