The Allman Brothers Band closed a brief fall run at Boston’s Orpheum Theater on Saturday night. The group’s six-show mini-tour was most notable for the band’s decision to perform the classic albums At Fillmore East and Eat a Peach in their entirety, but this weekend the Brothers also performed some unique covers. On Friday night, the ABB covered the Grateful Dead’s “Shakedown Street” for the third time this year. The group introduced the Dead cover at the Beacon Theater in March with Donald Fagen on vocals and performed the song once again this July with special guest Phil Lesh. On Saturday night, the Allman Brothers Band also busted into Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower” for the first time since 2007—and only the third time ever. Near the end of Saturday night’s show, Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks also debuted an acoustic version of John Lennon’s “Working Class Hero.” The Allman Brothers Band’s 2012 plans remain vague but the group will perform at Wanee and return to New York in March (presumably for a run of shows at the Beacon).
