Several musicians with ties to the Meters sat in with the Funky Meters at Gulfport, MS’s Island View Casino last week. Dr. John, who recorded with the original Meters and recently reunited with the band at Bonnaroo, emerged for “Trickbag.” In addition, Art Neville’s son Ian, who played guitar with the Funky Meters for a few years before Brian Stoltz returned to the group, emerged for “Just Kissed My Baby.” Stoltz will perform with his I-12 AllStars at New Orleans’ d.b.a. this Saturday. The Allstars’ lineup also features Tommy Chadwick on guitar (Freddy Fenders), Harrell “Boom” Bosarge on drums (Vince Gill, Delbert McClinton) and Kilmo Doome on bass (Blood, Sweat and Tears, Jaco Pastorius Trio).
