New Orleans’ Contemporary Arts Center hosted The Royal Family Ball on May 5. The show featured performances by Royal Family records artists Soulive, Lettuce and Nigel Hall, as well as associated New Orleans acts Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, Big Sam, George Porter Jr. and Donald Harrison. Lettuce’s full horn section performed at the show, including trumpeter Rashawn Ross, who was on leave for the past few years while touring as a member of Dave Matthews Band. In addition, Warren Haynes sat in with Lettuce during its set. Haynes and Big Sam both appeared with the group on “We’re a Winner” and “Move On Up.” Hall is currently touring in Haynes’ new solo band.
