Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey will debut its Race Riot Suite on May 20. The performance will take place at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center Trust’s John H. Williams Theatre in the quartet’s hometown of Tulsa, OK. In addition, the horn section featured on the studio version of the suite will perform with the members of JFJO. The all-star brass section includes: Jeff Coffin on saxophone (Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, Dave Matthews Band), Steven Bernstein on trumpet (Sex Mob, Levon Helm), Peter Apfelbaum on saxophone (Hieroglyphics, Trey Anastasio Band), Mark Southerland on saxophone (Snuff Jazz) and Matt Leland on trombone. Leland was actually a founding member of JFJO.

JFJO will perform at New Orleans’ Blue Nile tonight. The group’s JazzFest plans also include a performance with Johnny Vidacovich at the Maple Leaf (4/30), a performance with a full horn section at the Maple Leaf (5/6) and performance with Jeff Coffin & the Mu’tet at the House of Blues (5/7). The band’s May 6 horn section will include: Steven Bernstein, Mark Southerland and Jeff Coffin.
