Billed as the “Largest Free Concert In America,” Philly’s Fourth of July Jam will take place on Philadelphia’s Benjamin Franklin Parkway on Independence Day. More than 500,000 fans are expected to attend the event, which will feature performances by The Roots, Earth, Wind and Fire, Michael McDonald, Estelle, Sara Bareilles, and DJ Jazzy Jeff.
“We are excited to help put together such a great show! Philly’s a natural fit for the Fourth of July concert – The Fourth of July on the Parkway should be to Philly what New Years Eve in Times Square is to New York,” Musical Director ?uestlove said in a statement.
The concert will also include a special tribute to the 40th Anniversary of Gamble and Huff’s Philadelphia International Records, The Sound of Philadelphia. “Being from Philly, it’s a privilege to pay homage to the pioneers of Philadelphia soul. We are putting together a great tribute and the crowd is definitely in for a few surprises,” said ?uestlove.
