New Orleans’ Rock ‘N’ Bowl will host the Jammin’ for Japan benefit concert on Sunday, April 10. The show will feature performances by Kermit Ruffins, Jeremy Davenport, George Porter Jr., Papa Grows Funk, Bonerama and a range of
special guest musicians, including Sunpie Barnes. Each featured band boasts at least one Japanese musician. The youth group New Orleans Jazz Taiko Drummers will perform between sets and a selection of Japanese food will be available.

“I’ve toured Japan multiple times and have come to know the people as very warm, engaging and lovers of New Orleans music,” said event organizer John Gros in a statement. “Through our guitarist, June Yamagishi, who is from Japan, I have made many life long friends, friends who have showed much compassion during our darkest days of Katrina as well as shared life’s pleasure at home and in Japan. Our last tour to Japan brought us to Sendai and Ishinomaki in the Miyagi Prefecture. Our hosts rolled out the red carpet and showed us the time of our lives. Now they have lost nearly everything. Anything we can do to restore joy and happiness to their lives pales in comparison to their actual needs, but it is a start. And as we learned with Katrina, to achieve anything you must begin with a start.”

All proceeds will benefit the NOLA Japan Quake Fund. Fans are also encouraged to make donations at the show.
