Bob Weir, Rob Wasserman and Jay Lane are now sailing the high seas aboard Jam Cruise. On Monday night, however, before the ship sailed, the three performed one of their increasingly rare Scaring The Children sets at Revolution Live in Ft. Lauderdale. The trio opened up with the Grateful Dead classic “The Music Never Stopped” delivering a well-received stripped-down version of the tune to a full house. The night saw some songs that Weir sang for many years when all three still performed together in RatDog, such as “Desolation Row,” “Blackbird” and “Sugar Magnolia.” In addition, Weir also sang lead on some Jerry Garcia originals, including “Scarlet Begonias” and “Friend of the Devil.” Other highlights included a rousing take on “Muleskinner Blues” as well as a sequence that led from “Even So” into “October Queen” and on into “The Deep End.”
The trio will perform tonight on the good ship MSC Poesia.
