Phish brought its three-show run at Berkeley, CA’s Greek Theatre to a close last night. Both Friday and Saturday’s shows featured pockets of inspired improvisation, as well as some unique song choices. Friday’s performance truly kicked off with a run from Talking Heads’ “Cities” through “The Moma Dance,” “Bathtub Gin” and “Stealing Time From the Faulty Plan” first set. The group’s second set also featured some choice moments, especially a segue from the Velvet Underground’s “Rock and Roll” into “Ghost” and Mike’s Groove sequence that included a tasty “Simple.”
The group’s Saturday night show opened with an energetic run from “AC/DC Bag” into “Foam.” The Vermont Quartet reached its musical peak later in the second set during two seamless segues: “Wilson” into “Light,” “Twenty Years Later,” “Harry Hood” and Theme From the Bottom” and “Also Sprach Zarathustra” into “Suzy Greenberg,” a immediate “Suzy Greenberg” jam reprise and “Slave to the Traffic Light.” “The Lizards” and “First Tube” closed out the night.
Phish will return to Telluride, CO for the first time since 1991 tomorrow.
