The Dead Confederate will release its second studio album, Sugar, on August 24 via TAO Recordings/Old Flame. Like the group’s previous album Wrecking Ball, bassist Brantly Senn and singer/guitarist Hardy Morris split songwriting duties on the new album, which the group says nods to the band’s recent tour companions Dinosaur Jr. and Meat Puppets. Instead of touring these new tracks and sitting with them for a bit, the band spent two days learning 20 songs and a week reworking them, then laid half of them down. The album was recorded by John Agnello (Hold Steady, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr.) in New Jersey and features J. Mascis on the single “Giving It All Away.”
