John Legend, Voice of the Wetlands Allstars, Lenny Kravitz, Mos Def, Allen Toussaint, Ani DiFranco, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Rebirth Brass Band, Kermit Ruffins, Allen Toussaint and Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk are among the acts scheduled to appear at Gulf Aid today, May 16. The event will take place at New Orleans’ Mardi Gras World River City and will benefit those affected by the recent oil spill in the region. The performance is a sister event to Gulf Shores, AL’s the Hangout Beach, Music and Arts Festival.

Kravitz and Mos Def are expected to join Preservation Hall for a new benefit song the musicians recently recorded together. “I emailed [Mos Def], and he wrote back immediately that we was interested in doing something to help,” Preservation Hall Jazz Band’s Ben Jaffe says. “In the email he already included the first two lines of his rap.”
