A number of bands will perform free shows in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park as part of the 32nd annual Celebrate Brooklyn! Performing Arts Festival. In total, the festival will feature 24 free performances, including 17 music concerts, two dance performances, three film screenings with live music, a night of comedy, a family concert and four ticketed benefit concerts. The festival will take place at the Prospect Park Bandshell, where Celebrate Brooklyn! has been held since 1979.

As previously reported, Brooklyn resident Norah Jones will open Celebrate Brooklyn! with a free performance on June 9. Several other Brooklyn residents will perform in the park as part of the summer series, including JG Thirlwell, Eugene Mirman, Talib Kweli, Carl Davis, Holly Miranda and Sharon Jones, among others. In addition, BRIC has commissioned Brooklyn resident Marco Benevento to write a new original score for House of Usher, cult hero Roger Corman’s 1960 adaptation of Edgar Allen Poe’s famed story. The keyboardist will perform the score as the movie plays and also play Prospect Park this summer as part of a Miles Davis tribute. Other free show highlights include: Sonic Youth, Ozomatli, The Roots, Low Anthem and Allen Toussaint.
