The final sequence of SNL, including the “Phish flash”

Phish’s first concerts in Telluride, CO since 1991 are all but confirmed. This afternoon Telluride’s Town Council approved the band to play shows on August 9 and 10. Part of the Town Council’s agreement set aside approximately 1,500 of the shows’ 9,000 tickets for Telluride residents. The concerts will take place immediately after the Telluride Jazz Celebration, which is scheduled to feature the Stanley Clarke Band featuring Hiromi, Dianne Reeves, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks, Chuchito Valdes, Raul Midón, Gospel Hummingbirds and the Greyboy Allstars, among others. Phish’s shows will be promoted by AEG and Planet Bluegrass.

In related news, Vampire Weekend nodded to Phish on Saturday Night Live this weekend. The band’s drummer and outspoken jamband fan Chris Tomson wore a Phish t-shirt during the show’s closing credits. The episode was Vampire Weekend’s second appearance on SNL. For more on the band’s jamband roots, be sure to read our recent feature in the February/March issue of Relix.
