Last night drummer Joe Russo was off between Furthur dates in Charlotte, NC (Wednesday) and Hampton, VA (this evening). Meanwhile, his longtime Duo bandmate Marco Benevento was performing in Richmond, VA at the Capital Ale House with Dave Dreiwitz and Andrew Barr. Russo stopped by to check out the action and ultimately came out on stage to join the group for Deerhoof’s “Twin Killers,” The Knife’s “Heartbeats,” “Mephisto,” “Something for Rockets” and “Sunny’s Song.”

As for Benevento, who travels to Vienna, VA for a show at Jammin’ Java this evening, his next studio release is set for a May 11 release. Between Needles & Nightfall was recorded at Bryce Goggin’s Trout Recording and features Benevento, Barr and Reed Mathis. Additional drum parts were contributed by Matt Chamberlain with engineers Mell Dettmer (Sunn O))), Eyvind Kang), Jesse Lauter (Low Anthem, Elvis Perkins) and Vid Cousins (Amon Tobin, Kid Koala).
