Philadelphia’s Lotus co-headlined its famed hometown venue the Electric Factory for the first time on New Year’s Eve. The show also featured MSTRKRFT, Eclectic Method and other bands that blur the lines between electronica and jam. Lotus’ set opened with “Grayrigg” and, at various points throughout the night, the band sprinkled a series of familiar rock hooks throughout its original songs, including mash-ups of “Dane Jeer Us” and Daft Punk’s “Da Funk,” Wax and the Beatles’ “Day Tripper,” “Tip of the Tongue” and the White Stripes’ “7 National Army,” “Spiritualize” and MGMT’s “Kids,” “Tarasque” and Led Zeppelin’s “The Ocean,” “Bellwether” and Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” and “Flower Sermon” and Ozzy Osborne’s “Crazy Train.” The group also included a dubstep jam into “128” and utilized a special laser light setup throughout the night.
