David Byrne will release his next studio project on February 23 via Nonesuch records. A collaboration with Fatboy Slim, Here Lies Love features “an upbeat series of songs sung each one by a different singer.” Those singers include: Florence Welch (of Florence + The Machine), Sia, Santigold, Nellie McKay, Sharon Jones, St. Vincent and Róisín Murphy, among others. Byrne also sings on one and a half songs. The songs focus on the life of the former First Lady of the Philippines, Imelda Marcos, and Estrella Cumpas, the woman who raised her. In total, the album boasts 22 songs on two CDs, as well as a DVD with videos of six of those songs, and a 100-page book that explains the story.

“The story I am interested in is about asking what drives a powerful person—what makes them tick?,” Byrne says. “How do they make and then remake themselves? I thought to myself, wouldn’t it be great if—as this piece would be principally composed of clubby dance music—one could experience it in a club setting? Could one bring a ‘story’ and a kind of theater to the disco? Was that possible? If so, wouldn’t that be amazing!”

The Talking Heads previewed the songs from Here Lies Live in Australia in 2006. He also played material from the project during his residency at Carnegie Hall in 2007.

“I am pretty excited about this,” Byrne said in a statement. “but who knows, it might just make people crazy.”
